The G20 presidency will bring positive impacts in the medium and long term

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Permata Bank economist Josua Pardede has estimated that Indonesia’s presidency at the G20 summit in 2022 will have a positive impact for Indonesia, both in the medium and long term.

“It is because with this appointment, Indonesia should have greater bargaining power, especially in the financial field,” Pardede told ANTARA on Thursday.

He said that several main discussions in the financial side included economic recovery, sustainable growth, financial inclusion, as well as international taxation.

With this discussion, the summit is expected to serve as a platform for various agreements that would provide benefits for the Indonesian economy, he added.

Overall, Pardede expressed optimism that the initial cooperation during the G20 presidency would bring concrete benefits to boost the country’s economy.

Earlier, Communication and IT Minister Johnny G. Plate noted that Indonesia’s G20 presidency reflects the country’s real action in global leadership, which includes economic recovery.

“This is specifically about advancing cooperation and collaboration to accelerate global economic recovery and build sustainable global resilience,” Plate said in a press release quoted on Wednesday.

The transfer of leadership from Italy to Indonesia will take place at the G20 summit in Rome at the end of October this year.

Indonesia will then officially assume the presidency of the G20 from December 1, 2021 until November 2022, based on the theme “Recover Together, Recover Stronger”.

The G20 presidency for the period 2021-2022 will be the first time that Indonesia has chaired the G20 leaders‘ meeting since the forum, which contributed 85% of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP), was established in 1999.
